First aid for a hatchling wild bird?

My cat brought a hatchling in last night and I need to know how best to take care of it. It has a wound on its back that won't heal. After I started to feed it, it has perked right up but I am not sure how to best take care of it.
Answers:
your best bet is to bring it to the vet, especially if it won't heal. You could try rubbing some aloe Vera on the wound as many birds have had success with that.

Do you have an incubator set up for it? A really simple one can be made out of a plastic ice cream pail, a 60 watt light bulb and paper towels. Line the Pail with towels and make sure the bulb is at least 15 inches away from the kid. That way the kid can stay warm and not get burned. if you have the extra cash you can buy a reptile substrate heater and a small critter keeper. Both work though the substrate heater makes it easier to keep the chick warm.

Good luck! :-)
Baby birds are pretty resilient. Use a droplight in a plastic bucket or even a cardboard box, nothing fancy. Use paper towels and not newspapers to line the box. If you use newspapers it can cause spraddle leg due to it being so slippery to walk on. They need a shallow bowl of water that they can get to, maybe even a lid with water in it. Be sure and dip the beak of the bird in the water a couple of times every three or four hours until it starts to water itself. Babies like to sleep alot. As far as food goes boil an egg and crumble up the yolk and put it on a saucer, they love yolk. The wound should be kept clean, if necessary use gauze and tape like for a human wound. Don't worry too much about temperature the baby will definitely let you know. If it is too cold it will cry alot and shiver. If it is too hot it will pant like a dog and get as far away from the light as it can. Good luck!
I would get a cardboard box and put some grass in it %26 some feathers if you have them. This will make the hatchling feel that it`s in in own enviorment. Dig up worms and gently mash them up and mix with water. Put this into an eyedroper and gently open it`s mouth and put the eyedropper as far down in it`s mouth that you can and feed it the mixture. Then put just water in the eyedropper and put it in the corner of it`s mouth and squeez a little bit in. Try and do this every 3 to four hrs. and hope for the best. At this time do not put anything on the wound just keep it clean. Good luck.
