Duckling shell?

i found a egg in my front yard took it in now is hatched .. the baby duckling has some weird gooy string attatched to the shell from the baby duck .. what is this ? and he%26#92;she is trying to rip it off .. is this suppose to be attached?
Answers:
That is what is left of the fibrous membrane which holds the chick in position in the shell,It should be attached to the navel and the duckling will eventually pull free from it.As well it can contain blood vessels though there should be any blood left in them.If there is blood remaining in them make sure once the duckling does pull free it isn't bleeding.
No, it is probably just dried up veins.
