How do I get my cockateils to breed???

I have a nesting box where she spends most of her day, but he doesn't go inside the nestbox.is this normal? I am pretty sure they are male and female because they don't fight at all, but they aren;t that affectionate one to another either. Only when I let them out they fly together and stay mostly in the same places, but inside the cage (they have a biiig cage) one stands on a perch and another on another perch. The male is 1yrand 8months old, and the female is 1yr4months old. Could they be too young? Is there anything I can do to get them to breed?? Is it possible that they don't find each other attractive? Thanks.

Have you ever hand fed baby birds?
Are you just going to let parents fully raise them?
You need to decribe your birds colors so I can tell you what to look for to see if they are male and female or two females or two males.
Cockatiels don't not fight because one is female one is male, both sexes get along fine with the same sex.
I have 13 birds in a single flight with several nest boxes and noone fights.
Any tiel over 8 months old can breed.
It is pos. they don't find each other attractive, birds are drawn to each other by feather and color, if one is not what turns the other on then they will just be buddies.
The male is usually the one who goes into the box first and sets up shop so to speak.
And yes two birds of the same sex will mate, but usually you can tell by the length of time the copulation takes place as to if you have same sex or opp.
Male will climb onto female back and move his tail back and forth to position the females vent to his, once they have vents meeting they move in slow rounding motions for about a minute. If there seems to be no unusual stance and no rounding movements or it occurs for just a few seconds, you either have two same sex birds or birds too young.
What color are their beaks, a flesh colored beak means a young bird unless it's a lutino, a darkened beak tends to mean the bird is over a year old.
Females will often look very potty in the rear right before they pass an egg.
Make sure you have many cuttle bones in the cage to sup. the calcium the hen will loose during laying.
Make sure your box is not too small, you need a box of at least 10 inches in width and height, I use foot long/wide boxes with a depth of 16 inches.but we make our own.
Your male will also sing alot, females do not sing but do vocalize in chirps, beeps and whistles.
Females will often make a small chirping sound while being bred, males either make no sound or a very very slight chirpping. much lower in range then the females.
You should take the box off the female if she does lay and no hatching has occured in in 24 days since last egg was laid,
hens often lay one egg every other day and will be in or out of the box but will not start to incubate the clutch until next to last egg is laid , clutch is normally 4 or five eggs, but could be as little as 3 or as many as 7.
Rate of hatch is 3 in 5.
You need to contact someone who has bred and hand fed before your chicks hatch...you can leave them with the hen for 10 to 14 days before you pull for hand feeding as long as parents are feeding the chicks.
Some first time breeders do not feed and will abandon chicks.
It is a must to learn proper feeding temps and what to look for in a crop.
Please please find someone who has hand fed and go learn.
Get them "liquored" up.
Dim the lights, light some incense, but on a Barry White CD and leave them alone.

one must have a penis and the other not. A male and a female. Feed them Oysters and play some soft music in the background ( Like Sade or something along that line.)
Only time will tell! The only thing to encourage them would be another pair. They are both mature. However sometimes they don't breed for the first couple of years together.Go to www.cockatiels.org/articles
