How do I candle eggs?

Answers:
is this a pet bird's egg?

if its wild and the eggs have a healthy mother caring for them, leave them be.

if its a pet-

First, handle them as infrequently as possible. You don't want to handle them too often.

Handle them carefully and try not to jostle them around. If they're in the embryo stage, you could accidentally abort the baby chick (Or whatever other pet it is... reptile... so on). so be as smooth and careful as possible.

A pen light works better than any other light. Its small, it doesn't emit much heat- but it gives up more than enough light to check the egg out.

if you see veins all over the egg, you have the start of the growing process- and it will go from there.

so get a pen light

and again- be extremely gentle and careful not to handle too often or jostle the egg
A shoe box and a smaller wattage light bulb ought to do the trick. Put the shoe box over the top of a lamp with the harp and shade removed. Put in say a 25 Watt bulb. Cut a hole in the bottom of the box to put over the bulb. Put the top on with tape if need be and cut a hole a little smaller than the egg. Place egg on hole, turn off all other lights and otherwise darken the room and you should be able to see what you want.
