You should have the ruby throated hummingbirds in your area. Put out your feeder a few days before the dates shown on the map. It won't take the hummingbirds long to find them. Use 1 part sugar / 4 parts water, never put any food coloring in the water, it could be harmful to the birds. Plant as many plants in your yard that attract the hummingbirds that you can. Personally I have had great luck with honeysuckle. Not only do the hummers love it, it smells and looks great in the yard. In Kentucky our hummingbirds arrive raise their young throughout the summer and leave in the fall right on schedule. We also get a lot migrating through that seem to stop in for a day or two and continue on. I would guess that in your area you might get a lot more passing through, but they are still a joy to watch. Be ready for them when they come.

Well I myself have not seen any humingbirds in South FL. Might as well just sell it on e-bay. Contact the audubon society or butterfly world and ask if humingbirds are native to your region. The only birds in my area are turkey vultures, crows, pigeons, and the dreaded wood pecker!
The hummingbirds in my area of central Florida generally come March/April. Some will say March-October but I see mine March/April-ish. The site attached has central Floridians.

Please see the garden web forum below. It gave me ideas on buying plants that attract them although I think my cheap red, yellow and clear hummingbird hanger with water mixed with sugar and a couple drops of red food coloring works okay too.
my grand parents live in apopka,fl they have a feeder and get 2 or 3 visits a week, i live in Jupiter, fl we also have a feeder and have only seen 2 birds in 5yrs, so there are some around but no telling how long it will take for you to see one if ever.
