Does anyone know how old the oldest chicken is?

My mom has this Black Australorp (female) that my sister got in 7th grade (she was 13 years old) after learning about incubation in science class. They did a drawing for any student that parents said that they could take one home, my sister won the drawing. My sister is now 26 years old and the chicken is 13 and still alive. I tried checking on the Guinness Book of World records and had no luck so I was just wondering if anyone knew the life expectancy of chickens or what the record might be?

It is not uncommon for a chicken to live 14 to 20 years.Much of this does have to do with the breed. The reason is average sized egg layers will live longer then an average sized hybridized egg layer. The reason being is the hybrid devotes most of its energy to egg production rather then life longevity.Dual purpose chickens will live longer then a breed developed solely for meat production. The Cornish cross will only live about 2 years naturally. How you feed your chickens also plays a part in this.
