Does anyone know anything about wildbirds in southern cali?

the past few days my yard has been visited by only four beautiful birds they look like orioles. but I know they can't be over here, they have yellow golden chests black wings with white spots, and black heads white stripes, they are so pretty and the kinda sound like mockingbirds, I tried to take pictures but they are very skidish, any guesses? thanks
Answers:
Its very possible it was a Scott's Oriole. They do reside in Southern California. Take a look at the links below :-)
Sure sounds like Oreoles. We have them here in northern arizona... 3 kinds. Very skittish. They eat out of our hummingbird feeders.

Migration patterns are changing, also severe weather may change birds 'normal' range. Could be they are moving into your area.
yes, live them alone...
Yes we do have Orioles in So. Cali.
In fact we have 2 species, Hooded and Bullock's.
Right now they are here to nest If you have a palm tree near you that is why you might be seeing so many of them, they weave a hanging nest on to a palm frond. The numbers increase every year. Generally in years past we have had Hooded (and a lot of them) this year the Bullock's have also made a big impact. Enjoy them they are interesting and one of my favorites. They will be here until the end of summer then they will head out.
Yes, these could be orioles..we do get them in So. Cal. Another answerer listed the common species found here. Another possibility could be a Black-headed Grosbeak...they are pretty plentiful here right now as well. I say this because you said you saw white stripes on the head..the female grosbeaks have this.
